TL DR If you treat "losing progress" like "permadeath", and take your past experience with you in the next round, the game is practically a roguelike.ĮDIT: Just to reiterate, I am aware that Getting Over It does not possess all the requirements to be defined as a proper roguelike my aim is NOT to recategorize it. People can claim that the controls are bad or inconsistent, but they're not random, and the obstacles themselves don't change, so the path to discovering a method to overcome it is always within your reach. Now while Getting Over It doesn't offer any additions to its gameplay at any point, you're still left with your experience. IHasCupquake climbs a crazy mountain in Getting Over It and Jacksepticeye snowboards down an extreme peak in Steep. The reason I compare it to a roguelike is because I love that genre, a genre where progress (at least with a specific character) can be lost quite easily, but at the same time, you still gain something, whether it be a new unlock or knowledge about a tough obstacle.
Markiplier, Jacksepticeye, Hat Films, TheRPGMinx, GTLive), and experiencing this game myself (accumulating 28+ hours and making it to Orange Hell), I'm baffled at why people get so easily infuriated. Instead of a man in a pot navigating a punishing and surreal landscape, this playful alternative has you playing as a cat in a plant pot. The objective is the same in this version of the game, but the theme is entirely different. But would you consider Getting Over It to be a roguelike, or at least could be perceived as one? Not to get too philosophical, but after watching YouTubers play this (i.e. Pewdiepie, Jacksepticeye and Markiplier played this game - I THOUGHT IT WAS FUN Getting over it GameplaySubscribe. Getting Over It has officially made me reach the bottom of the barrel of gaming. Getting Over It is a fan game based on the hugely popular Getting Over it with Bennett Foddy.
